Child Injury in The United States

A Report to Fundación MAPFRE from the Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy

In collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy, we carried out research on intentional and unintentional injuries suffered by children from 0 to 14 years of age in the United States. The study covers the years 2015 to 2017. Its objective is to provide an idea of the magnitude of the problem by age group, in order to be able to establish the most effective prevention policies in California, Massachusetts and Ohio.

Injuries remain the first cause of death in minors from 1 to 14 years old. Traffic accidents, drownings and burns are the main causes of fatal injuries in the United States. The report analyzes in depth these and other causes, placing value on prevention policies to avoid them. In this way, the data highlights how implementing adequate prevention strategies is tackling the problem.
